Their route to the final has been a straightforward one. With aggregate defeats over PK-35 (12-0), Zorkiy 11-0, Malmo 8-0, and Juvisy 9-1, it’s safe to say that we are looking at a pretty amazing team.
Amongst the Lyon ranks is Swedish striker Lotta Schelin; an amazing talent that has scored 30 goals in 20 games so far this term, Louisa Necib; a classy midfield playmaker that is regarded as the female Zinedine Zidane, and Camille Abily; a goalscoring midfielder who has hit the back of the net no less than 25 times so far this season.
Olympique Lyonnais go into this final as 2/5 favourites with Sky Bet to defend their title without requiring extra time or penalties, while opponents Wolfsburg from Germany can be backed at 5/1 to snatch the title. The draw is priced up at 3/1.
So what do we make of Wolfsburg? They’re certainly not here just for the fresh air. Already crowned the Frauen Bundesliga Champions this season with 53 points gained from 22 games, scoring 21 league goals in the process, they will be pushing Lyon all the way.
A player to watch out for is 34 year old striker Conny Pohler. The German former international contributed this term with a 16 goal haul in the league, as well as netting 8 times in her 8 Champions League games this season.
The German champions can boast at least 6 German internationals amongst their ranks as well as Hungarian striker Zsanett Jakabfi, and while this season was their debut in this tournament they certainly don’t lack any experience.
All in all this is likely to be a thrilling final and promises to provide plenty of goals. Lyon have a pedigree to fear at this level, but Wolfsburg are very worthy challengers. Bookmakers seem to have their odds pretty much correct, and as far as betting is concerned, Lyon should be able to defend their title at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night.
