The temperature has been steadily rising at this year’s event and Thursday saw the drama reach a new level as Rafael Nadal suffered a shock defeat to the world’s 102nd ranked player. Dustin Brown put on a simply marvellous show to down the Spaniard in four sets in what was easily the performance of the day.
Former champ Nadal wasn’t the only big name casualty, though. Ekaterina Marakova was knocked out of the Women’s tournament, and was joined by Elina Svitolina and Alize Cornet. Meanwhile, Feliciano Lopez and Fabio Fognini dropped out in the Men’s tour.
British hopes are still going strong as Andy Murray powered his way past Robin Haase in next to no time. He will be joined in round three by wildcard James Ward, who battled through against the Czech Republic’s Viktor Troicki.
Elsewhere, there were routine wins for the likes of Sabine Lisicki, Roger Federer, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Petra Kvitova. Setting us up nicely for the days ahead.
Can Heather Watson Cause Major Upset?
The main headline of Friday’s action sees British starlet Heather Watson look to defy the odds as she faces world number one Serena Williams on Centre Court. It’s been a great start to the tournament for Watson, but this is should be one challenge too far.
Men’s No.1 Novak Djokovic is also in action as he takes on Bernard Tomic while the Centre Court schedule starts with a potentially intense battle between Richard Gasquet and Grigor Dimitrov. Elsewhere, Maria Sharapova, Stanislas Wawrinka and David Goffin will all be hoping to seal their respective places in the last 16.
Arguably the most interesting contest of the day sees Australian rising star Nick Kyrgios look to avenge last year’s quarter-final loss to Milos Raonic. Both men are extremely exciting talents and this has the potential to be one of the best matches of the tournament so far.
Whatever happens, it’s set to be another dramatic day at SW19. As an added bonus, you can watch and bet on the action live courtesy of Bet365 live streaming.
Wimbledon Tennis Day 5 Betting Tips
Although all eyes will be cast to Serena Williams v Heather Watson, it’s actually the Centre Court opener that stirs our interest in terms of the betting markets.
Gasquet is a good player, but Dimitrov has real potential to break into the top echelons at some stage and there is no reason to think he can’t overcome his French opponent in style.
