Premier League Darts 2016 Live: Week 2 Preview & Betting
Premier League Darts 2016: Week 2
Thursday 11th February. 7PM. Sky Sports 1
After a fascinating opening night of drama last week in Leeds, the PDC Premier League continues on Thursday night with a mouth-watering schedule at Newcastle’s Metro Radio Arena.
With five fascinating matches to sink our teeth into, it should be a cracking night of entertainment. Hopefully it’ll be a prosperous one for betting too.
Let’s play darts!
MVG V Anderson In Headline Showdown
After missing last week’s schedule through illness, reigning champ Gary Anderson returns to the Premier League for the first time since clinching the title against Michael Van Gerwin in London last May; ironically, Mighty Mike is his first opponent of the 2016 tournament too.
MVG did win the opening battle between the two in last year’s event, but Anderson won the following two, including the all-important best of 21 final. Over 12 legs, though, a powerful run from the Dutchman could leave him out of sight against an opponent that could be a little out of sorts due to the circumstances.
Nevertheless, you’d be a fool to rule out the Flying Scotsman after the last 18 months he’s had. Quite frankly, both men are capable of playing some truly scary darts at times. This could be a game with some very big scoring.
Prepare yourselves for a blockbuster.
Michael Smith In Must Win Territory
Premier League debutant Michael Smith couldn’t have asked for a worse start last week, losing two matches in the wake of Anderson’s absence. Bully Boy enters the night’s opening clash knowing that a win against Robert Thornton is compulsory if he is to have any serious hopes of progressing to phase two of the competition.
The youngster is capable of beating last week’s worst player, though, and it should be a fascinating start to the evening. Meanwhile, Raymond van Barneveld will be looking to build on last week’s demolition over Phil Taylor by seeing off Peter Wright. However, Snakebite should be confident after last week’s 7-2 win over Smith.
Dave Chisnall enjoyed a very easy day at the office last week by whitewashing Thornton, but Chizzy can expect a much tougher test against Adrian Lewis. If Jackpot performs to his best, then he could be a great outside bet to go all the way this year.
The night’s final game sees Taylor take on James Wade, who was brilliant in beating MVG last week. It will be interesting to see if the Power reverts back to his old darts after last week’s loss to RVB. While it’s hardly the last chance saloon for the six-time winner, he will want to pick up his first points here.
It’s all set for a wonderful night in Newcastle. And let’s hope we win some money too.
Premier League Darts: Week 2 Betting
For once, all five matches look quite difficult to call, but it wouldn’t be a night of darts without a few bets. We think we’ve found two tempting selections here.
First up, we’re backing Smith to clinch his first ever Premier League win in the night’s opening encounter, and have doubled it with Lewis on a two-way result against Chizzy.
