Lower League Football Tips Sat 24th November: Shots To Be Fired By Valiants
Another Saturday and another set of selections from the depths of English football for you to get stuck in to. Tuesday’s little treble was only let down by Fleetwood who suffered a shock loss at home to Accrington, but the two risky selections paid off. Let’s see if we can find more value this weekend:
Aldershot vs Port Vale
2nd in the table Port Vale travel to 3rd from bottom Aldershot this weekend and while the Valiants are my own team, I think this is one of the best away wins on the coupon.
As discussed in my article earlier in the week, Port Vale have just exited adminstration and Tuesday night proved that this has put a wind under their sails with a 4-0 thumping of Bristol Rovers.
With the transfer embargo lifted, the club have made some attractive loan signings including Liam Chilvers who had a great spell at the club last season and looks set to start Saturday’s game. Port Vale have lost only 2 of their 9 away games this season and have picked up 18 points on their travels so far.
Aldershot’s only home win this season came against Barnet back in September and they’ve lost 4 of their last 5 at home scoring 0 goals in the process.
Port Vale are the top scorers in the division and Aldershot have scored the fewest goals in the divison and I think the away side’s firepower will result in a whitewash at The Rec this Saturday.

Oxford vs Northampton
A bit of a change from the norm here as I’ve found potential value in a market I don’t normally select.
Northampton are the form team in League 2 and there’s only one reason for this; Adebayo Akinfenwa. He’s scored 7 goals in his last 4 league games for Northampton, including a hat-trick and is bang in form.
On scouting the markets for this match I was surprised to see 11/8 on offer for Akinfenwa to score any time given the stats above so I’ve picked this out as cracking value.
BET: Akinfenwa to score anytime @ 11/8 (Bet365)
Coventry vs Portsmouth
Coventry are one of the form sides in League 2 at the minute winning 4 of their last 5 games conceding an average of 1 goal per game and scoring an average of 2.6. After a poor start to their season, they seem to have really turned it around and have picked up some impressive victories over the last few weeks.
Portsmouth are the complete opposite and have the worst form in League One going into this game with 5 losses in their last 5 games scoring only 2 goals and conceding 9. They’ve picked up only 8 points on the road this season from a possible 27 and are sliding further and further down the table.
They two sides have met 4 times over the last 2-3 years, Coventry winning 3 of these meetings and Portsmouth winning 1. I expect a comfortable victory for the home side today.
BET: Coventry Win @ 8/11 (Bet365)
