Liverpool v Tottenham Live – Spurs Look To Round Off Epic Weekend
Liverpool V Tottenham
Tuesday 10th February. 8PM. BT Sport 1
It’s set to be a cracking atmosphere at Anfield as two Premier League giants collide in the race for Champions League football and we’re fully expecting another classic between these great rivals.
Three points could be huge for deciding the fate of these two top four hopefuls. Likewise, defeat could effectively rule the loser out in the race for Champions League qualification and that will serve as a huge incentive in both camps. It should be a thrilling spectacle for the neutral.
Who will deliver the knockout blow to their opponent?
Reds Require Victory
A dour derby stalemate at Goodison Park didn’t do any favours for Brendan Rodgers’ men, who remain five points adrift of the top four, but they could give their Champions League qualification hopes a huge boost with three points over Tottenham.
While Liverpool have been far from convincing this season, the return of Daniel Sturridge should inspire renewed hope at Anfield. The England man has been a substitute in the last two league encounters but could be ready for a starting return in this crucial contest. If he is picked from the outset, the Reds will naturally pose a much greater threat in the final third – something they definitely lacked on Saturday.
Additionally, Liverpool can take huge confidence from their recent record against the North Londonders. The Reds have won each of the past four head-to-head meetings and the last three have ended with a 12-0 aggregate score. That included a 3-0 win at White Hart Lane back in August, arguably the side’s best performance of the entire campaign.
If they can produce the level of performance enjoyed in recent meetings, Liverpool should be set for another comfortable win.
Tottenham Look To Complete Perfect Week
It has already been a pretty productive week for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, thanks to a dramatic turnaround in Saturday’s derby against fierce rivals Arsenal. A rare win at Anfield would really leave the White Hart Lane club smiling.
Despite their poor form against the Reds, Tottenham will take heart from a string of strong displays in recent weeks. In fact, Spurs have lost just one of their past 10 Premier League fixtures – a run that includes notable wins over Chelsea as well as Arsenal.
Perhaps most crucially, though, Pochettino has uncovered a real goal threat in Harry Kane. The England hopeful netted twice against Arsenal to take his overall tally to 21 this season, including a dozen in the league. With Christian Eriksen also provided plenty of flair, the visitors are bound to cause some problems for the often shaky Reds backline.
Spurs haven’t had it good against Liverpool in recent times, but they’ll hope to go marching on towards Europe with a crucial victory here.
Liverpool V Tottenham Betting
Considering the recent history, it doesn’t come as any surprise to see Liverpool established as the odds on favourites at 4/5 with Bet365. However, the price of 3/1 for an away win suggests that Tottenham can at least hope for success at Anfield. Meanwhile, the draw is available at 14/5.
If there is one thing we’ve come to expect from these matches in recent times, it’s goals. Admittedly, it has only been the Reds producing them lately, but Tottenham will enter this one in equally high spirits.
Both teams possess a number of talented attacking players but have a couple of notable weaknesses as the back. With the added bonus of both team’s seeking the win, that should be a recipe for action.
Over 2.75 goal line @ Evens with Bet365
This is a huge game for both sides but really is must win territory for Liverpool, who simply cannot afford to fall further behind in their quest for a top four finish.
If they are going to grab the win, then there are only a handful of candidates likely to produce the required magic. For that reason, we’re taking this selection as a value bet.
