Everton V Watford
Watford are back in the Premier League for the first time since 2006/07 and the Hornets will be dreaming of a successful return to the top flight. However, Quique Flroes’ men will have to jump straight in at the deep end as they head to Goodison Park.
The Premier League new boys do look a little weak in some areas, but they do boast the potential to score goals. The foursome of Troy Deeney, Matej Vydra, Odion Ighalo, and Fernando Forestieri were brilliant at Championship level and will be hoping to make the step up in style. Meanwhile, the summer additions of Valon Behrami and Etienne Capoue should offer extra strength in midfield.
Nonetheless, Everton are one of the best teams in the league on their day. Roberto Martinez’s side struggled to cope with the demands of European football last term, but should be expected to enjoy a much better Premier League campaign here. Starting with a win against Watford.
The Toffees will be confident on home soil, expect the newly promoted Hornets to come stuck in this opening day fixture.

Hull City V Huddersfield Town
Steve Bruce’s side were the shock casualty from last year’s Premier League relegation battle, but the Tigers will be confident about bouncing back at the first time of asking. They open their Championship season with by welcoming Huddersfield to the KC Stadium, and the home fans will expect nothing less than three points.
On paper, Hull’s squad is extremely talented for this level. If the likes of Michael Dawson, Curtis Davies, Nikica Jelavic, Mo Diame, Tom Huddlestone and Abel Hernandez all remain, the Tigers will have to be considered amongst the favourites for automatic promotion. Moreover, the loan signing of Chuba Akpom from Arsenal could prove to be a very shrewd signing indeed.
Chris Powell’s Terriers finished the 2014/15 campaign with a seven-game unbeaten streak. However, it did include five draws including a final day stalemate against Blackpool. The visitors have some decent players and Ishmael Miller will always pose a threat, but we can’t see them causing too many problems for the Tigers.
Home win.

Cambridge United V Newport County
In their first year back in the Football League, Richard Money’s men saw their League Two progress hindered slightly by their cup antics. In 2015/16, however, the U’s could be a great bet for promotion to League One and we’re backing them to start the campaign with three points at the Abbey.
Cambridge finished a full 10 places behind their opening day opponents, but the hosts did score 10 goals more than Newport in 2014/15. Meanwhile, the summer signing of Barry Corr from Sotuhend United could be a fantastic buy for the League Two side and that added firepower could serve them well against the Welshmen.
Terry Butcher had a little time at the end of last season to get used to the Newport team, but the former Hibernian manager might require a bit longer to truly get the most out of his squad. We don’t think they’ll struggle this season, but they’ll do well to match their 9th placed finish of 2014/15.
Cambridge claimed a stunning 4-0 win in last season’s corresponding encounter. It should be a little tighter here, but we’re expecting the same outcome,
