FA Cup LIVE – Oldham v Everton 16th Feb : Can Latics Do the Merseyside Double?
The F.A cup 5th round gets under way over the weekend and live on ITV1 we have action from Boundary Park where Oldham take on the other half of Merseyside in the shape of Everton.
Oldham managed to beat Liverpool in the last round 3-2 and will be hoping they can do it all over again here on Saturday evening when they go up against the Toffees.
Everton are clear favourites for the tie and I don’t really think anyone can be surprised at that considering Everton occupy 6th in the Premier League and Oldham find themselves in the relegation zone of League 1 in 21st position but as the F.A cup has proved already this season league positions mean nothing when these games come around.
Paul Dickov was manager against Liverpool and has since left the club, but I’m sure Oldham would like to replicate the result in the previous round and 888sport have them at an industry best of 10/1 to beat Everton on Saturday evening and go into the 6th round.
9/2 is on offer for the draw and although it may be very unlikely we will see a draw in this game, I still reckon if you asked Oldham before the game would they take a draw and then a replay at Goodison Park then they would probably bite your hand off for such a result.
Everton are at 1/3 and the odds imply that this should really be a straight forward win for David Moyes and his men although the Toffees didn’t exactly make it easy for themselves in the last round when they needed a 90th minute goal from Johnny Heitinga to beat Bolton 2-1 ,so Oldham can really go into this tie with a lot of hope and optimism that they can cause another upset.
A market of great interest in this game should be both teams to score. Oldham have managed to score 11 goals in 4 F.A cup ties so far this season and have twice managed to score 3 past teams from a higher division when they played Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.
Everton themselves have only played in 2 rounds to date in the competition but have conceded in both games which were both away from home and against lower league opposition. Oldham will throw everything at Everton come Saturday evening and 5/6 on offer from Bet365 could be very good bet.
This game has all the attributes to be a superb F.A cup game and I’m sure Oldham won’t disappoint the home fans with 100% commitment and effort come kick off. I will be getting the beers on the ready cause we could be in for a real cracker!
