Hungarian Grand Prix – Hamilton Outshines Rosberg In Friday’s Practice Sessions

Lewis Hamilton fell further behind Mercedes stablemate Nico Rosberg in the race for the drivers’ championship in Germany last weekend, but he means business ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.
Hamilton emerged on top in both of Friday’s practice sessions, prompting bookmakers to slash the Briton’s odds to also emerge victorious in the race itself. He’s now a top-priced 4/7 with Betfair and Betfred.
The 29-year-old was 0.238 seconds quicker than Rosberg in the second session, with Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel Fernando Alonso of Ferrari third and fourth quickest respectively.
Hamilton is currently 14 points adrift of Rosberg following 10 races, and he’ll be desperate to bridge the gap ahead of the imminent four-week F1 summer break. Indeed, defeat at the Hungaroring would leave him with a veritable mountain to climb.
However, if you subscribe to the ‘horses for courses’ theory you will be confident that Hamilton will be victorious this weekend. The Stevenage man has won four of the last seven GPs at the Hungaroring, and also claimed pole at the track on four occasions.
Rosberg, meanwhile, can be backed at 11/5 with Paddy Power for Sunday’s showdown. Though the German has a handy lead in the table, he will also be keen to maintain his momentum prior to the sport’s month-long hiatus.
Ahead of the Hungarian GP the drivers’ championship betting is hotting up. Despite having ground to make up, Lewis Hamilton is the 10/11 favourite to be crowned best in the business this year with Ladbrokes, while BetVictor go even money about Rosberg claiming his first title.
