Galatasaray are quickly shaking off any challengers for the title and currently sit 6 points clear at the top of the Super Lig. With their nearest threat Fenerbahce not in action until Sunday, they have the chance to extend that lead to 9 points, but to do so they’ll have to beat Eskisehirspor, a team who have been beaten just twice at home this season.
The champions come into this fixture on the back of a stunning comeback against Orduspor. 15 minutes into this game they went behind to a freak own goal, which by the way is well worth seeing, and before half time the league leaders were 0-2 down at home to a team who sit just outside of the relegation places.
But goals in the 58th, 68th, 70th and 78th minute completed a remarkable comeback as they went on to win 4-2, demonstrating their resolve, class and adding another vital 3 points to their tally.
The hosts sit 6th in the league and though a challenge for the top 3 may be out of reach, they sit only 1 point behind Bursaspor who occupy the final Europa League spot.
If Eskisehirspor are to stand any chance of grabbing this though, they’ll need to start converting draws into wins, something which they haven’t seemed incapable of doing this season, especially at home.
Though the hosts have lost just twice at the Eskisehir Ataturk Stadyumu this season, they have also only won 5 of their 11 home league games, form which could well cost them at the business end of the season. With a 0-3 loss to Kayserispor in their last home game, they will be looking to turn this form around but asking them to do this against the Champions and leaders Galatasaray is a big ask.
Galatasaray are certainly not invincible on the road with only 2 wins in their last 5 games and with only 5 wins in their 12 away league games this season. Their previous meeting earlier in the season finished 1-1 and their last meeting at this ground finished 0-0. All the statistics are pointing to a draw here, but after watching the 4-2 comeback by Galatasaray last week, I wouldn’t be surprised if this grit and determination takes them 9 points clear at the top of the Super Lig.
The match is being streamed live on Bet365 at 5.00pm and if Galatasaray’s last game is anything to go by, this could well be worth your viewing time.
