After a pretty dismal week for the national side, Premier League football returns on Saturday and at Goodison Park we’re in for a cracker in the lunchtime kick-off.
THE MERSEYSIDE DERBY
The weekend’s opening match will be the 221st chapter in one of the world’s oldest derbies. Liverpool hold the upper hand both overall and in the Premier League era but Everton are certainly capable of an upset.
However, despite many close contests in recent years, the Toffees have only tasted victory twice in the last 16 encounters and one of those was after extra-time in a cup match. Perhaps not the best omen for the home side, but with a new gaffer the tides may be about to turn.
They’ve been in the jungle just over 48 hours and groups are beginning to form, but our thoughts turn to the first elimination betting which happens in about a week’s time. Have you spotted an outsider in the camp? Anyone being bullied? Fed up of Matthew Wright’s mincing?
It appears that bookmakers are really struggling to find the weakest competitor at this early stage, even though we already know that the likes of Laila Morse, Matthew Wright and David Emanuel won’t be crowned king/queen of the jungle.

In what will probably be the most frequently watched match of the night, Portugal take a slender 1-0 advantage to Stockholm in the second-leg of their World Cup Play-Off with Sweden.
As the two teams fight it out for a single place on the flight to Brazil, the world’s media await in anticipation as this one heads towards a compelling conclusion. We could be in for a classic.
