Brazil V Peru Preview
Since taking over from Phil Scolari after last year’s World Cup, Dunga has enjoyed a successful first year back in the Selecao manager’s seat and his side enter the Copa on the back of 10 straight victories.
Even more impressively, considering the goals shipped at last summer’s tournament, Brazil have kept eight clean sheets in that period. Meanwhile, new skipper Neymar has continued to shine as he climbs up the list of all-time Selecao strikers whilst the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Douglas Costa are starting to show promise on the international stage.
Stepping back into competitive football is a new challenge for Dunga’s side, but they shouldn’t have much trouble against one of the weaker outfits in this competition. Peru are quite likely to finish bottom of Group C as Ricardo Gareca’s side lacks genuine quality all over the pitch.
Captain Claudio Pizarro is getting on at 36, whilst former star Jefferson Farfan isn’t quite the player he was around three years ago. Juan Manuel Vargas is pretty much isolated as the only decent midfielder and this is an area where the underdogs could be particularly vulnerable. And if Brazil can keep getting the ball through to the likes of Neymar then this match is only heading in one direction.
The first game of a tournament is always difficult. Nevertheless, Brazil will be expected to perform. For the sake of the whole Copa, it’s mightily important that they do.

Brazil V Peru Betting Tips
Unsurprisingly, Brazil are overwhelming favourites for their opening fixture, being priced 1/5 to win with Bet365. Peru are available at 14/1 if you fancy them to cause a major upset while the draw can be backed at 11/2.
From a neutral perspective, we’d love to see the free-flowing Brazil that we’ve come to love and appreciate over the years but Dunga will be happy to get the win in any way possible.
Brazil are rightly hot favourites but we don’t think they will go all-out attack. Instead, we’re predicting a routine victory with no defensive worries.
[quote_center]Brazil to win-to-nil @ 5/6 with Bet365[/quote_center]In comparison to previous generations, there is a lack of attacking quality around the modern day Selecao. However, they do possess one star name that is more than ready to drag them forward.
Captain Neymar has been promoted from prince to king and will be Brazil’s best chance of goals throughout the tournament. We’re backing the Barcleona star to continue his amazing season by starting the Copa campaign in style.
