Tuck into your Sunday lunch and hopefully watch the cash roll in:
Manchester United vs Everton 4.00pm
The last time these two teams met at Old Trafford we were treated to a 4-4 goal glut and with both teams in fine scoring form, but also questionable at the back at times, we could well be treated to another fest today. But as long as both teams find the back of the net, we don’t mind if it results in a 1-1 draw.
United are almost a certainty to score at Old Trafford. The last time that they failed to score was in a 0-1 defeat to Aston Villa in 2009 and to find the last time that they failed to score against Everton at home we have to go back as far as 2004. But this season they have been noticeably vulnerable at the back and have conceded their far share of goals. In 12 home league games this season they have kept just 3 clean sheets which for a top of the table team is worrying to say the least.
Everton come into this game as a favourite of many for Goals Galore. In 12 away league games this season they have both scored and conceded in 9 of those games keeping only 2 clean sheets and failing to score only once.
Academica vs Rio Ave 4.00pm
Academica currently have the 3rd highest percentage of home games where both teams have found the net this season of any team in the European major leagues and I strongly fancy them to increase that percentage today.
88.9% of Academica’s home games this season have seen both teams score in the league and a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Estoril is the only exception. They are yet to keep a clean sheet in 9 home games in the league and as they welcome 5th place Rio Ave today, that run is likely to continue.
Rio Ave have both scored and conceded in 5 of their 8 away games this season and are yet to fail to score on the road. Even when they have been beaten away from home they always seem to grab a consolation and there should be no exception today.
Feyenoord vs AZ Alkmaar 1.30pm
Although Feyenoord’s last home game finished with a 0-0 draw against Twente I’m writing this off as a bad day at the office. This fixture aside they have scored 25 goals in their other 9 league games at home this season, and although they have only conceded in 5 of their 10 home league games, today they welcome an AZ side who are always capable of goals at both ends.
AZ come into this fixture on the back of two successive wins away from home in the league and 5 successive wins away from home in all competitions.
In their 10 away league games this season both teams have found the net in 9 of those games and AZ’s last clean sheet on the road came back in March 2012. But these 10 away games have also seen an average of 3.6 goals per game which leaves little doubt in my mind that we won’t be seeing a 0-0 draw here today.
